I’ve been lucky enough to have tried a new kind of shake here in Florida, in orange country. A small farm that gives tours of it’s operations has a little store that sells these shakes, and once I had one, I was hooked! There are simple: fresh orange juice blended with orange sherbet and vanilla ice cream. That’s it. And boy are they ever good!
Because they only have three ingredients (well four, since I add some vanilla to mine), it’s important to start with the very best tasting ingredients you can. The orange juice should have lots of pulp. The orange sherbet should be deep orange and taste like a fresh orange. And the vanilla ice cream should be creamy and sweet. Take it from me – I used sugar free ice cream when I made my first ones, and I could tell that it just wasn’t as good. So don’t make the same mistake that I did.
The recipe is easy. Use the same amount of orange juice, orange sherbet, and vanilla ice cream. I used about 1 cup of each, and then I had to add a bit more orange juice to get the blender to mix it up. I also put in one teaspoon of vanilla. And that’s it. mmmmm!! So good! It’s like summer in a glass!
Start with about 1 cup of each. I didn’t really measure. Just eyeball it. Next time I will buy a name brand sherbet and a regular vanilla ice cream. These were OK, but not as good as it should have been.
It looks like I used a little more than a cup of ice cream doesn’t it :). That’s OK. Just eyeball it.
I hd trouble getting my mixer to blend it properly. I had to keep stopping it and pushing it down with a spoon. And don’t forget to add a teaspoon of vanilla.
And there you have it! It tastes like a creamsicle. Or an Orange Julius. But better. Yummy! Give it a try!
